Algeria’s dependence on Russian and Ukrainian military equipment has become an issue as the Crimea crisis persists. Analysts say Algeria was the 10th biggest buyers of military equipment from 2004 to 2013, procuring some 91% of all its hardware and systems from Russia. But it also relies heavily on Ukrainian contribution; therefore siding with anyone in the Crimea conflict could harm the Algerian military. Algeria has faced a similar dilemma when Kosovo declared its independence from Serbia in February 2008. As of now, Algeria does not recognize Kosovo in fear of upsetting Belgrade. Continue here.
